We’re excited to announce there’s an extra new security feature in Lace 1.14. Revealed by Charles Hoskinson at Rare Evo 2024, the paper wallet feature now makes Lace even easier to use. Put simply, users with existing PGP keys can now recover their wallet with one encrypted QR code.

Even easier wallet recovery

Previously, the only way to recover a wallet was with a 24 word seed phrase, which is ideally stored offline for maximum security. Now, users with PGP keys can use the paper wallet feature to create a QR code, which contains the recovery information instead.

Using the paper wallet feature

If you’re already a Lace user, go to Settings and then Security and select Generate paper wallet. Don't forget, you’ll need existing PGP keys to use this. If you’re new to Lace or recovering an existing wallet, you’ll be given an option to create and download a paper wallet when you log in. In the event that you need to recover your wallet, you’d simply be prompted to hold the QR code on the printed paper wallet up to your device’s camera.
