What's on this page

Nami has long been a top-tier, non-custodial Cardano light wallet thanks to its renowned user-friendly features and popularity within the ecosystem. As the blockchain landscape evolves, Web3 tools need to meet the security and stability requirements at the forefront of everyone’s mind.

Input | Output (IO) is excited to announce the gradual migration process from Nami to Lace, which will begin in Q4 in 2024. With one click, Nami users will be able to access a ‘Nami Mode’ within Lace that retains the familiar interface they love, while benefiting from Lace’s robust infrastructure and support.

This shift isn’t just an infrastructure change; it’s a consolidation of Cardano communities that share similar goals, mindsets, and a love for the blockchain.

Why try Nami Mode?

Nami will live on within Lace, with users able to enjoy their favorite features, plus Lace’s advanced functionalities, enhanced performance, and improved security.

The move to Nami Mode is a simple and swift process that eliminates the friction of switching wallets. Users don’t need to learn a new interface immediately, they can continue with what they recognize in Nami Mode – preserving trust through a smooth transition.

Beyond Nami Mode

This move serves as a bridge between what Nami users know and what’s possible, enabling users to switch from Nami Mode to the full Lace experience, and vice versa, at any time via the Settings menu. Lace features include:

  • multi-delegation,
  • advanced transaction view,
  • support for multiple software and hardware wallets,
  • full-screen view, and
  • multi-address support.

How to migrate

Starting in late October, Nami users will be able to migrate their accounts over to Lace’s Nami Mode. This migration will be optional at first, but will become mandatory after the second Chang hard fork because Nami doesn’t currently support delegation of voting rights, as required for Cardano governance.

The migration process couldn’t be easier:

  1. Access the migration tool: open Nami to see this tool on your Home screen.
  2. One-click migration: follow the guided process to automatically move your accounts to Lace.
  3. Discover Lace: explore Lace and Nami Mode, and decide what features work best for you!

Note: If you’d like to become an early adopter and be one of the first to upgrade your wallet, enable the Become a beta partner option in the Settings menu.

Community-focused development

Lace’s developers built Nami Mode with a deep appreciation of the community’s love for Nami – ensuring that:

  • the feature meets Nami users’ needs
  • the process is simple
  • the experience is familiar, and
  • the benefits are clear
